Hello, friends!
                                                (and moms)
Maybe you know that we've been making bread lately.
Lots of bread.
All the time.
Now you can join the club and quit moochin' all our tasty loaves!
This is our visual interpretation of the basic bread recipe from the 'Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day' cookbook. It is a no-knead recipe and is verrrrry easy.
Well, get movin', lazy pants! Time to bake!
Let's Make Bread!
6.5 C flour
3 C warm water
1.5 T yeast
1.5 T coarse salt
(optional rosemary or other herbs)
Get yourself a big ole bowl that will fit happily in your fridge
Add the 3 C water
Add the 1.5 T yeast
Wait 5 minutes for the yeast to get foamy
Add the coarse salt
it will make the yeast collapse... cooooool
Now add your herbs if you've got 'em
We like rosemary!
Finally, add the flour
Mix it
all up
with a
if there are still
dry, flaky spots,
get your
hands wet
and get
in there!
cover it up,
                                                                                        but don't seal it!
Plop it in the fridge and let rise for at least 24 hours. The flavor will improve with time (up to 2 weeks).
Finally ready for some bread?
Time to prepare the loaf!
you'll need:
a cutting board
a knife
corn meal
Spread the corn meal in a thin layer on the cutting board
(this photo depicts a thick layer. oops.)
Chop out a chunk!
Don't be shy!
Take anywhere from 1/4 - 1/2
of the dough depending on
how big you want the loaf to be.
gently shape the dough into a ball
dust with flour as you continue to shape it into a ball
let rise for 20 minutes
after 20 minutes allow your
cat to sneeze on the bread.
This is also the time to
place an oven-safe pan
on the lowest shelf of
the oven and preheat
it to 450 degrees.
Continue rising for 20 more minutes
cut vents with
bread knife or
sharp knife.
get fancy!
Slide onto a baking sheet with parchment paper or Silpat
place in the 450 degree oven
add two-ish cups of water
to the hot tray to steam
the crust to perfection
let bake for 30 minutes or until nice and brown
You did it! Enjoy!
            Great work, everybody!
Have fun stealing the show at your next potluck!
